Pigeon Pictures

OK - so you know that I had a pigeon nesting on the balcony. We stayed away to give mama pigeon some peace and once the eggs hatched, I would go out every couple of days to have a look and snap some pictures without disturbing them too much.

The first photo was taken on July 19. This is the first time I got to see the babies.

Mama never went far. She'd see me and came flying back right away.

Aug. 6 - The nest is empty!

Jim disposed of the nest to discourage any more egg laying and cleaned up the "mess" they left behind.

Aug. 12 - Lo and behold, look who I spotted. They still have little spikes on their heads where the feathers haven't quite finished coming out, but obviously, pretty much full grown & full feathered.

Thought you could get rid of us, eh? Not that easy.

The "babies" were sitting on the floor of the balcony and mom was on the railing keeping watch it seemed.
We'd been very accommodating. We let them set up temporary house on our balcony, but now they are getting to be a nuisance. They're like the grown children that won't move out. They keep pooping all over and frankly, I'm getting tired of cleaning it up. We get all gloved & masked up to go out and clean up bird crap. We can't even enjoy the balcony anymore. Time for some desperate measures.

Jim went to Canadian Tire and bought this plastic owl. He set it up outside while chattering away "Say hello to my little friend."

This by the balcony door also acts as a pigeon deterrent.

So the owl is in the middle of the balcony, Simon is on one end and look what's on the other end.

Geez! I think we're going to have to resort to putting netting up.

Or get another Jack Russell?

Adorable pics! Our girls are going to love seeing these and the development you've captured. So cute.

All the droppings... I hear you, not so cute. And when I saw that owl... I just about laughed out loud! We have the same thing!! Unfortunately we have two (or more) cats that have been using our garden as a litter box. It's frustrating b/c all the other houses around us have dogs, so our garden is 'safe' I guess. All those droppings are not fun to find or clean up. And we have our own indoor cat, so cleaning after other folks' cats is not pleasant!

I guess you gave those pigeons such a loving home they keep coming back, right?!

How precious! This is truly amazing. Who knew baby pigeons were so cute. Too bad EB White isn't around to see this post.

Aww...what a dilemma! After watching them grow up, you hate to give them the boot, but hey, I hear ya about birdshit.

Aw, that is so cute! It must have been just lovely watching the little pigeons grow up like that :) I love that little owl, too!

Carrie, I read your comment on somebody else's post about canned chipotles in adobo. I bought a can awhile ago, and only used one. I read somewhere that you can freeze them in ice cube trays! So I did that. They should keep longer that way than in the fridge?

Those pigeons are so cute. We had a robin's nest this year and I loved watching them grown up. I can understand though, with the nest on your balcony what a nuisance that would be. Hope you're able to find a happy solution for everyone.
