What A Deal

I've been very lucky scoring food related deals this week.

A few days ago, Dreena has posted a comment on
her blog saying that someone had told her Muir Glen was pulling out of Canada because of the expense of bilingual labelling. I was a tad upset over this because I adore Muir Glen Fire Roasted Tomatoes. Now I'm on a mission to stock up while I can. A couple of nights ago, I was at Ultra Mart and was very excited to see 28oz. cans on sale for $2.77. There were 4 left, so I bought them all. I'm seriously thinking of going to the other Ultra Mart that is way across town to get more. Am I crazy? Probably, but I just love these tomoatoes and panic sets in when I think that they won't be available to me except when we go to the States.

.

Before my shift at the wine store yesterday, I had some time to kill so I browsed around Fortino's. Good thing I did. I scored three excellent deals. First off, they had Kettle Chips on sale - 3 for $5. Needless to say, I bought 3.

.

.
Then I happened upon Natur-a Rice Milk for $1.50 per container! I've never tried it, but at this price, how could I not?

.

Then....yes there's more. I told you I've been lucky.

They had Santa Cruz Organic lemonade on sale for 99 cents. The regular price is $3.29!! I got 3 of them.

With that, I think I've probably exhausted my luck for finding food deals until 2007. That's OK. I'm very happy with my goodies.

Carrie--We stocked up on the same Lemonade for 99 cents at Whole Foods. It's so refreshing in this hot weather. We sometimes drink it straight out of the bottle.

You were lucky that you had time to browse before your shift. I don't stalk up on things very often, but I would if stores here had things that had a good sale price. Usually you save a few pennies. Why not go get the tomatoes if you like them? How will you feel if you don't and they are discontinued? Can you phone there first to see if they have any?

Oy, such bargains!! Way to cash in on all the goodies and get good prices. I'm like you about the Kettle Chips... i would've bought 3 bags for me and 3 bags to distribute to my family, Peter and his family! That way i can eat them when i go to their house as well. HA!

Curious: What makes those fire-roasted tomatoes so good? They look great from the can's outside!!

Teddy, have you tried the baked ones? I really like those. Lightly salted.

urban, to the pot of gold of course! Now, if I could only find it.

waistwatcher, I know what you mean about sales. If you're lucky, it might be 10 or 20 cents. The lemonade was save 2.30! I couldn't pass that up.

Kleo, you've never had those tomatoes? You don't know what you're missing! They have black charred spots on the outside and they taste all smokey and delicious. They give chilis, soups, stews, etc. a really unique taste. You must get some!

That lemonade is yummy! I love getting great deals and always stock up when things are on sale. Kettle chips are good, I couldn't keep them in the house! And I have never tried the fire roasted tomatoes. I've had that brand though...

I've been dissapointed to have not seen those tomatoes on sale for quite a long time now - stocking up is the smart way to do it! I've been seeing that lemonade on sale for 99 cents at Freddy's and Whole Foods around town as well, the limeade is my favorite.

I bought some muir glen tomatoes at Liquidation world( in Ontario) and they were expired for over a year. I called the company to figure out how to read the label. They sent me 5 replacement coupons that I used last week. I bought 5 cans of the fire-roasted at Loblaws. It came to over 19 bucks and I got them for free. When I lived in Cali, I loved Muir Glen, but ya know what I love even better? San Marzano's. They are imported from Italy. San Marzano isnt a brand, but a type of tomato. If you can find them, check them out. Low acid, superior flavor.
