Rockin' Tofu

This is my favorite tofu. I like it because it's extra-firm and low in fat.

For some reason, there has been none to be had around here for over a month. I don't know what was going on, but I was getting desperate. Then a few days ago I stopped into Fortino's and there was a whole pile of them! I bought 6 packages. While Jim was helping put the food away, he said "Carrie...got a tofu issue?" Maybe I have & maybe I have. :o)

.
I used the first package in this dish from The Garden of Vegan. I've made this before and it's perfect for weeknights because it takes practically no time at all. The cookbook even says this tofu recipe rocks.

It's "Zoe and Andy's Sesame Tofu". This recipe is soooo easy. It has 6 ingredients and that's including the tofu and the oil used to fry it in. I mixed up the sauce stuff and let the tofu sit in it for a few hours (the recipe says 5 minutes). It really soaked up some of the flavour. It's a teeny bit spicy & very delicious!

I had a package of honey garlic noodles in the cupboard, so I cooked those up and used some frozen veggies that I tossed with a bit of olive oil, salt & pepper and roasted in the oven. When they were done, I drizzled them with a splash of sesame oil.

It all went magnificently with this bottle of Trius Dry Riesling. This isn't one of the bottles we got recently. This one is a 2004 vintage and is still widely available if you'd like to try it.

How simple was that for a weeknight meal?

Carrie, I am the same way about the steamed lentils from Trader Joes. I usually buy 4 or 5 at a time. Craig is always asking me if we're having a party. Whatever! He'll be the first one to complain when we run out....

lol... I actually ate a small block of "flavored" tofu last night because I was hungry. Just sliced it and popped it in the microwave. It was about as classy as Ramen noodles, but much tastier. :)

hmmm, I've never seen that brand of tofu before -- what you did with it looks so delicious. I like your method on frozen veggies, I don't think to roast them for some reason. I'd like to eat @ your house... I mean Simon's house. :o)

I like that tofu, too, although I often buy a different brand 'cause I shop at Loeb. The sesame version looks delish!

Mmm, just looking at that is making me hungry. I love sesame crusted things :) I’ve been roasting a lot of frozen veggies lately, so easy and convenient. Brussels sprouts are amazingly tasty with just a sprinkle of seasoning, soy sauce and some lemon or vinegar before you toss them in the oven.

BTW, your meme questions are in the comments on my blog.

Oh, i wonder if i can get some of that brand of tofu. The firm kind is also the kind i like to use best to stir fry. i love the sesame seeds on 'em. Makes for great flavour and extra crunch. i usually use Bragg's for my tofu when i cook it up.

Garlic noodles!? Yummerz!! Nice you roast your veggies. i really need to start doing that instead of just microwaving them!

Have a great weekend, Carrie! And P.S. to Jim, tofu is never an issue that we can't handle... Way to stock up, you guys!! Where did you shop for that?! Fortino's? Die we go there when i was with you guys?!!?

Funny you should mention a lack of that tofu. Just today, I was looking for it, as it is also my favourite. There was none, so I ended up getting a different brand. Maybe there is a province wide shortage, or they're on back order. Or maybe it's just a coincidence...nah, that's too boring an explanation :)
