What's the #1Song of the 80's?

According to VH1 it's this!

I'm so glad it wasn't Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Admit it. You like this song. When it comes on the radio, you turn it up. Don't you? I do! And I know all the words and sing along.

I remember when this song was first out. My sister, Trina, came to visit me in Ontario. She brought with her the Slippery When Wet album. She had a crush on Jon Bon Jovi. Who didn't? Look at him now.

At 44, he's still lookin' mighty fine!

I've really enjoyed Bon Jovi's music over the years. In fact, Wanted Dead or Alive is on my top 100 favorite songs list.
And guess what? Last I heard, Tommy & Gina are doing all right!

Not the biggest fan of this band but Jon Bongiovani is a hottie. And he's a Pisces, but i digress. :o) I was really hoping the link would open up to a Bryan Adams video. RATS! This is a decent tune though, probably the only song of theirs i might listen to. I'm weird tho... i mean, i like "Weird Al" and stuff...

I second the vote for a Bryan Adams video!! Lol! :)

I remember this Bon Jovi video. I liked their music then, and this video is such a classic with the hair and outfits. I think I loved "Dead or Alive." Jon is a cutie. WOW - look at him at 44!!! *still looking* Remember him on Ally McBeal? :P So cute.

Why do I think this is such a stupid choice? It is obviously based on what is popular now. Bon Jovi is still around now, and still popular, while the new wave bads are long gone. There is no way this was the number one song then, before we even get into issues of quality of music. Typical of VH1 and MTV to cater to what people know and like today to make a top anything list. When they do top 100 rappers, or rock albums, or hard rockers, they always fill the list half way with very recent work. This way people stay interested in the show. But that results in things like jimmi hendrix being 55 and madonna being 23. And also results in me leaving long angry comments. : )

oh how I do remember this song.. It came about the same time I ran away for the first time (I was 15 and pregnant).. It became my theme song.

I came in on this show around #37 and U2's Pride was playing. With or Without You ranked a lot higher. The Cure also made the top 30 list.
Alex, if you're angry about Bon Jovi being #1, how about this....Duran Duran's Hungry Like The Wolf was #2.
TK, Tommy & Gina from the song!

Hungry like the wolf is good, rio good, U2 would have made me happy, or the police, or cure, or tears for fears... I mean you dont have to like the same music I do but I think I have a pretty good picture of what the 80s were. And quality of music has to count as much as popularity. If there were to be one song that represented what was the 80s I often say (as do others) that it would be something like Modern English - Ill melt with you. Or come on Eileen, or Take on me, or simple minds dont you forget about me. These are the classic 80s songs. I could live with any of these or any of a dozen U2 or Police songs. How about Every little thing she does? That might be my number one from the 80s. That would have been a great choice. Not some hair band rock and roll crap. Sorry.

Oh, Alex I agree. Not to say that I dislike Bon Jovi, but take them for what they are. I would never have picked this to be #1. I would like to have seen U2 in top spot. "With or Without You" is in my personal top 10 and "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is a top 20 for sure. I saw U2 in concert when they were on their Joshua Tree tour and they are spectacular. All of those songs you mentioned would have been a perfect contender for #1.
There were so many one-hit wonders that are "totally 80's" and a lot of real stand-outs. Don't forget Blondie, The Clash, Eurythmics, Prince, REM, Guns n' Roses, etc. So much diversity in that decade. I love the 80's!

Okay, granted I was practically embryonic for a good chunk of the 80s, but even I don't agree with that choice. Yes, good song. Yes, top 25. Number 1? I think not. Of course I can't think of what should have been number 1...but not that!

I get a kick out of the hair in that video every time I see it. He's much hotter now at 44 than he was back then. Terrible choice for #1 though.

I agree with the U2 vote!! :) I still love them.

Duran Duran was my favorite band back then! Lol! I loved "The Chauffeur." The video is another story, but the song is great! Lol!

My favorite Bryan Adams song is currently "I Will Always Return" from the Spirit soundtrack. Wow. I love him in that!!!!
