Canada Day BBQ

.
Since most of our friends were away for the weekend and since I had to work, it was a BBQ for two. Three if you count Simon, but he got treated to Venison Stew.

My friend Michelle raved about these and although I'm not a mushroom fan, I thought they would taste earthy and go well with this little gem I'd been saving.
.

We'd picked this up back in March while we were travelling around for the Cuvee weekend. Jim really likes Baco Noir and we had to drink this up. It's a 1993!
I'd taken it out of the rack on Friday night and let it stand upright over night so the sediment would settle to the bottom. Who wants to drink bits from their glass? Then, just before dinner, I carefully decanted it, and left the sediment behind in the bottle.

Jim was outside cooking the burgers, while I was inside making a salad. We're on the 11th floor and "technically" we're not to have barbecues, but everyone does and we're careful.

We bought a new one this year. It's just a little one, but there's only two of us, so it's big enough. We also prefer charcoal to gas, so this one is perfect.

Everything was ready and the burgers looked really good. Excellent job Jim! I'd also made some fries to go along with everything.

The wine was divine, and the burgers were just OK. They weren't as tasty as I'd hoped. Jim wasn't too keen on them either. I won't buy them again, but you don't know unless you try, right?

For dessert, we had a Canadian classic - TimTarts! They were a nice little sweet finish to our day.

Wow, nice burgers! I love burgers either made with or enhanced with mushrooms... do you think you will try another brand or have you sworn off 'em? The tarts are sweet, Carrie!!

tim's tarts! You know, I've never tried them.
I have heard that the reason BBQs aren't allowed in high rise buildings has nothing to do with the safety around having bbq on your patios, but that its because they aren't allowed to have people going in elevators with propane tanks. Now, I don't know if this is true, but it kinda makes sense to me! So, you guys have got charcoal...no problem:-)

I keep seeing the commercials for the TimTarts and wondering if they're any good. I think I'm put off my the glaze (the shiny look about them). What's in them?
